About Dr. Walkes
Jon-Cecil (JC) Walkes, MD, is certified by The American Board of Thoracic Surgery and has been in practice since 2003. He is a long standing member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He sees patients at Texas Heart and Vein Multispecialty Group in Greater Heights, and Downtown, Houston, Texas.
Dr. Walkes has a long history of clinical excellence and previously served as an associate professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center and the director of the valve program at Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute – Texas Medical Center in Houston.
He attended Stanford University and graduated with honors in biology and humanities. Dr. Walkes then studied medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating with honors and his doctorate. After completing general surgery at Baylor University, he moved into the thoracic and cardiovascular residency at Baylor College of Medicine. While there, Dr. Walkes was a member of the Dr. Michael E. DeBakey Heart Team at Houston Methodist Hospital.
Dr. Walkes performs all types of adult cardiothoracic surgery and is nationally known for minimally invasive heart valve surgery. He helps train other surgeons and their teams in the area of minimally invasive valve surgery. Dr. Walkes is extensively published in the areas of valve surgery, cardiac tumor surgery, and cardiac trauma. He has an acute interest in limb salvage and has performed thousands of limb salvage surgeries to help patients heal wounds in the lower extremities.
