Rhinoplasty

Transform Your Look with Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a transformative and deeply personal decision. Whether you’re looking to enhance your appearance or improve your breathing, this comprehensive guide will help you navigate the process with confidence and ease.

Pre-Surgery Preparation

  • You'll receive instructions about medications to stop taking before surgery and when to stop them.
  • Taking medications or supplements that thin the blood can affect the blood's ability to clot. They can increase the risk of hematomas after surgery. These medications include blood thinners, aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), ginseng, Ginkgo biloba, fish oil and others.
  • You'll be asked to avoid eating anything after midnight the night before your surgery.

The Procedure

Anesthesia

Rhinoplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the surgery and the surgeon’s recommendation.

Incisions

The surgeon will make precise incisions, typically inside the nose, to access the bones and cartilage. This approach minimizes visible scarring.

Reshaping

To achieve the desired shape, the surgeon may remove or add bone and cartilage. For functional improvements, such as correcting a deviated septum, structural adjustments may be necessary.

Post-Surgery Care:

  • Rest: Plan to take a week or two off from work or school to rest and recover.
  • Follow Instructions: Adhere to the surgeon’s post-operative care instructions meticulously to ensure proper healing.
  • Swelling and Bruising: Expect some swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes, which will gradually subside over several weeks.

Considerations

  • Benefits: Rhinoplasty can lead to an improved appearance, enhanced self-confidence, and better breathing if functional issues are addressed.
  • Risks: As with any surgery, there are risks, including infection, bleeding, or an unsatisfactory outcome, which may require revision surgery.
