Abdominoplasty/ Tummy Tuck

Transform Your Midsection with a Tummy Tuck

What is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a transformative cosmetic surgery designed to enhance the shape and appearance of your abdomen. This procedure involves removing excess skin and fat, tightening the connective tissue (fascia) with sutures, and repositioning the remaining skin to create a more toned and sculpted look.

Why Consider a Tummy Tuck?

If you have stubborn fat or loose skin around your belly button or a weakened lower abdominal wall, a tummy tuck can be a game-changer. Not only does it improve your physical appearance, but it also boosts your body image and confidence.

Pre-Surgery Preparation

  • You'll receive instructions about medications to stop taking before surgery and when to stop them.
  • Taking medications or supplements that thin the blood can affect the blood's ability to clot. They can increase the risk of hematomas after surgery. These medications include blood thinners, aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), ginseng, Ginkgo biloba, fish oil and others.
  • You'll be asked to avoid eating anything after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • The plastic surgeons office will provide you very detailed instructions prior to arrival in Colombia and before your procedure date.

Understanding the Risks As with any major surgery, a tummy tuck comes with risks, including:

  • Fluid Accumulation (Seroma): Drainage tubes can help reduce this risk, and the doctor may remove excess fluid post-surgery.
  • Poor Wound Healing: Antibiotics can help prevent infections, but some areas may heal poorly or separate.
  • Unexpected Scarring: While the scar is permanent, it’s usually hidden along the bikini line.
  • Tissue Damage: Smoking increases the risk of tissue damage, which may require additional surgical intervention.
  • Changes in Sensation: You may experience reduced sensation or numbness in the abdominal area or upper thighs, which typically improves over time.
  • General Surgical Risks: These include bleeding, infection, and adverse reactions to anesthesia.
  • Long-Lasting Results By removing excess skin and fat and strengthening your abdominal wall, a tummy tuck can give you a more toned and slimmer appearance. The results are usually long-lasting, especially if you maintain a stable weight.
